I’ve been enjoying the pushback against the idea that generative AI models have human-like smarts. While I agree that they shouldn’t be flying a plane or even driving an EV, I do think cognitive neuroscience has something to learn from the success of this technology. The main thing is that we (humans)can do this stuff using only 20 watts of electricity. Even inference on the latest AIs is vastly more costly.
